Having dropped out just days before the French Open, Kei Nishikori recently got the bad news that he will also miss Wimbledon next month.
Nishikori, the highest ranking Japanese in men’s tennis, has a small stress fracture in his right elbow and will be out of action for two to three months, it was revealed Monday.

Teenage tennis star Kei Nishikori said Monday he has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right elbow. As a result of examinations in New York last Wednesday, Nishikori has to refrain from swinging a tennis racket for two to three months and will be sidelined from the ATP Tour indefinitely.

He was honored as the ATP’s newcomer of the year for 2008, in part because of his run to the fourth round of the U.S. Open. He was the first Japanese man since 1937 to make it that far at that tournament.
