Teenage tennis star Kei Nishikori said Monday he has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right elbow. As a result of examinations in New York last Wednesday, Nishikori has to refrain from swinging a tennis racket for two to three months and will be sidelined from the ATP Tour indefinitely.
‘‘The exams found a small fracture. I really wanted to play Wimbledon, so I’m very disappointed. I have been in rehabilitation for more than eight weeks,’’ Nishikori said at a press conference in Tokyo. The 2008 ATP Tour newcomer of the year pulled out of this year’s French Open due to the injury, which originated in the season-opening Brisbane International in January. The 19-year-old reached a career-high 56th in the ATP rankings in February but has fallen to 116th.
