Nishikori reaches new ranking high

Rising teenager Kei Nishikori climbed to 66th in the ATP rankings released Monday to become the second-highest Japanese ever on the top-tier men’s tennis circuit.

Nishikori rose 11 places from the previous week to a new career-high after reaching the semifinals of the Stockholm Open, his second best result on the tour following his victory in February at the Delray Beach International in Florida.

Shuzo Matsuoka achieved the highest-ever ranking by a Japanese man under the computerized world rankings established in 1973 with 46th place in July 1992.
